THERE IS JOY IN SHARING AS WELL AS ADVANTAGE
Possessing a good tool box is an advantage to have good relationship with your neighbor. Exchanging spare tools like a spanner, a pipe wrench or a power drill in increase your value as a neighbor who can be relied upon on a situation that warrants the use of those tools.
Imagine on a Sunday, while working on a garden hose, you notice that the faucet is dripping even though you close them with force. Being a holiday, the hardware store is closed and you can work on this on Sunday only. How much you will be pleased if a neighbor will allow you to borrow his pipe wrench, spanner and even agrees to give you a washer which was the prime cause for that leaking tap. Of course you could replace that washer later, but on that occasion the exchange was very valuable and a timely one.
Similarly working on wooden fence your neighbor may be in a tight situation if he breaks the drilling bit on half way through the work. It is ideal to borrow one from you to save time to finish the work and later he can bring back the bit to you and replace his broken drill bit later.
Likewise there is mutual benefit in sharing a sand paper, a sewing needle, and a hack saw blade and of course a piece of copper wire for a blown out fuse of your house or your neighbor’s house. Over a period of time you will find that there develops a bond of friendship between the two houses and there may be projects that you two work together such as mending a wooden fence or building a tree house for your kids. At times your friend may have a simple and more valuable way of solving an issue you have in your hand for repairing an electric iron or a kettle.
